Stanley Nicholson Babb was a sculptor, born in Plymouth, where he studied art, also at Royal Academy Schools. Won a gold medal and travelling scholarship, 1901-2, and studied and worked in Italy. Became a member of Art Workers’ Guild in 1919, retiring in 1945. Exhibited at RA, RMS, RSA and elsewhere and was a fellow of RBS. Babb’s war memorial is outside the civic centre in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
His Work is displayed in some very amazing places. I’ve noted them below where known. I’ll be silent from here and let the images do the talking.
It is unclear at the time of publication if Stanley or Nicholson as he preferred to be called, had any children. Those documents are still protected by modern privacy laws. However, he is a member of Devon Pedigree (Barnstaple 1711) 04, 15 & 34. Meaning that we have now merged 3 of Ian’s trees into a unified pedigree.

Hello,
I have for sometime been trying to find out more about S. Nicholson Babb. I have a letter from him to my great grandfather, dated 15 Feb 1913. He mentions my great grandfather sitting for him and I have always been curious as to where the bust he mentions in the letter might be now.
I would be most interested to hear more and perhaps you might like to see a copy of the letter.

Well I declare! No relationship to my Somerset Babbs, however this statue does stand in our youngest son’s new home town of Tunbridge Wells. I shall look for it on our next visit.
