Finishing touches are being put on The Homestead’s roof and we are looking to the next major phase of our project. The Babb Family Association is planning a “Chinking Party” on Saturday April 14th starting at 9am. Chinking is the process of sealing the gaps between logs so that The Homestead is weatherproof. As many of the members of The Association life in many other states we are making a call for volunteers from the local community to turn out and help us fill in the gaps. Roughly 16 chinkers can work simultaneously and a professional staff will be on-hand to guide volunteers.
If you aren’t physically able to do the construction labor, bring a homemade pie or fried chicken to help feed our community army and come join in to root them on!
Volunteers are also needed on an ongoing basis while work is completed and there is pre-work involved in the interior laying floors and the staircase so that volunteers will be able to easily get around. Roughly 200 hours of labor is still needed. No experience is necessary, but skilled hands are also appreciated. Volunteers should contact the Nathanael Greene Museum at 101 West McKee Street, Greeneville, TN 37743 or (423) 636-1558.
