This curious item is currently available on eBay. It is a receipt from the French Bakery of Edouard Babb. His 1890’s Patisserie was on one of the Grand Boulevards of Paris, which is named Avenue Victor Hugo.
I have no additional information on this Edouard Babb, but he does seem to have run a swanky joint given the scant information in this receipt. He seems to have commanded a significant price for his 31 pastries at 60 Centimes each. I don’t speak or write French, but with the bill of 58 Francs this would be a great amount of money for its day.
