Mary Ann Babb & George Yeakley

When making tough decisions regarding where the trolley was going to stop during last summer’s 2024 Babb Family Association Reunion in Winchester/Frederick Co, VA, I scrubbed the location of a Babb burial in the Yeakley Cemetery. When planning the route it was essential that the Trolley be able to turn around and get out of whatever situation we got them into. The Yeakley Cemetery sits on/surrounded by private land and there was what I thought to be a sole Babb buried there. Aerial maps didn’t provide enough information to make it worth trying to travel into the bush and back.

At the time I didn’t know the exact connection between the families and having scrubbed it from the list I turned my attention elsewhere. So, this family Genealogy of the Yeakley/Deppen family fell into obscurity in my big pile of digital files that haven’t been reconciled yet. During the reunion I mentioned the location as we drove within a mile of it but had mistakenly believed that she was the daughter of Thomas Babb (1-2-2).

Today, we rectify that situation and address the descendants of Mary Ann Babb (1-2-2-2-4-7). Previously, she was only known as Mary Babb with an approximate birthdate of 1805. She is the daughter of Abner Babb (1-2-2-2-4) & Susanna Robinson and the granddaughter of Peter Babb (1-2-2-2) & Mary Bowen.

The family genealogy carries a number of revelations about the next generations, one of which is a purported son Jacob, who was married to a Harriet. However, upon further investigation, I find that Harriet Babb married a Jacob Fries (Freese/Friese/Fries), not the other way around. There is a juicy story there, but that is for another day.
