Thomas Babb of the Hopewell (1620) in 1635

This collection captures a number of the travels of Captain Thomas Babb, Master of the Hopewell of London, England. While the book covers a 100-year period, the mentions of him all occur in 1635.

I should acknowledge that the title of the book references slavery, which was still in practice in both England and the US during the timeframe it references. A “person of quality” was their way of saying the people in this book were white and were not slaves. There is a separate book that covers the slaves themselves.

You will find him listed amongst the highlighted entries on these relevant pages. The records don’t provide anything groundbreaking but do present a snapshot of his live in 1635.
